I was visited a few minutes ago by a middle aged Japanese man who was traveling door-to-door selling newspaper subscriptions (I think...).
Actually, he walked down the line of apartments and rang each bell, then ran back to whomever answered the door.
Now, mind you, I was preparing some rice (washing the rice) when the bell rang. Without thinking, I shouted out, "Just a minute." In English, mind you. It took me a minute to answer the door, and by that time, he had already started talking to my neighbor. Well, figured he heard me call out in English and had decided not to bother with me, so I went back to prepping the rice. And, of course, just as I was in the middle of things, the doorbell rings again. So, slightly irritated, I go and answer the door.
Now, you need to realize that it is a 2-3 inch step up to get into my apartment to begin with, and I am now standing on my shoes at this moment, giving me another inch or so. This gentleman was about 5'8" or so. I open the door and he is already diving into his rehearsed speech when he looks up...and up...and up. The look on that poor man's face. So funny.
